CAGP National Review Course 2014
The CAGP will be offering for the third time an intensive two-day review course in Geriatric Psychiatry on Sunday, September 7th and Monday, September 8th in Toronto immediately before the CCSMH-CAGP 2014 Joint Scientific Meeting. The review course will be an excellent opportunity to cover a wide array of topics in geriatric psychiatry at an advanced level. Knowledge will be consolidated, and clinically-relevant literature updates will be presented. The course is suitable for geriatric psychiatrists, geriatricians, family physicians and allied-health professionals interested in learning more about a broad array of topics in geriatric psychiatry.
Over the course of two days, 16 speakers will be covering 13 major topics in geriatric psychiatry. The topics were carefully chosen based on a needs assessment of last year's attendees and a survey of the full CAGP membership. Even if you attended last year, you will likely be interested in joining us again this year. Sunday, September 7th will focus on diagnosis and treatment of delirium, dementia, depression, and sleep disorders, as well as assessment of capacity. The morning of Monday, September 8th will have sessions on antidepressants and antipsychotics, each with presentations geared to three different groups: Psychiatrists/geriatricians, Family physicians, and allied-health professionals. The afternoon will include sessions on psychotherapy, changes with aging and sexuality. The course will be chaired by Dr. Andrew Wiens, Associate professor at University of Ottawa with the assistance of Dr. Mark Rapoport, President of the CAGP and Associate professor at the University of Toronto, and Dr. Dallas Seitz, Assistant professor at Queen's University. Confirmed speakers include Dr. Carol Cohen, Dr. George Heckman, Dr. Nathan Herrmann, Dr. Sanjeev Sockalingham and Dr. Lesley Wiesenfeld as well as the chair and assistant chairs. In addition, international guest speaker Dr. Charles F. Reynolds III from the University of Pittsburgh will be discussing the topic of Sleep Disorders in the Elderly. Please save the dates Sunday, September 7th and Monday, September 8th for the 3rd annual CAGP Review Course in Geriatric Psychiatry, and stay tuned for more information about registration for the Course.
